I want to say thank you. That windstorm you sent through last night? Very impressive. No power for a week? Heck of a job. Most hurricanes are pretty selfish with their affections and don’t send any love as far inland as Ohio, but you just kept going, didn’t you. I want you to know I appreciate all your hard work. You’ve got moxie, kid.

OK, but a tropical storm can decimate Galveston. I\\\’m pretty sure, actually, that a couple dudes with some box fans could do some real damage to Galveston. Don\\\’t get me wrong, I like Galveston (actually, this is not true), but I am just not at all impressed with a hurricane destroying it.
Ike killed (ok, like 5) people and bashed up buildings and cars 1,200 goddamn miles inland from landfall. That\\\’s a fucking storm, man. I am not complaining about not having power (because whatever, I have to read with a lantern and cook over fire instead of hot metal); I am fucking awed.
Houston has been pretty crazy b/c of Ike.

I’m actually near Houston and am pretty happy b/c my power came back at home, but not at my office. So I get to “work from home.” But I did run out of gas on the side of the road yesterday, so I cried a little. I guess things could be worse.

Actually, last I saw about 30 people had been killed. And several thousand spent the weekend on a high school gym floor in galveston without any bedding or food at all. Then on Monday they were taken to a convention center. At least they are safe.
I understand, though. After three days without power I evacuated to Austin. I’m an ’80s baby.
